The architect Eduardo Souto de Moura was invited to develop the construction project for this house, in a set of two single-family houses on two adjacent but independent plots, with all his wisdom.
The project is developed in two parallel cubic concrete monoblocks, anchored to the slope, practically blind on three of their sides, which are opposed, on the remaining side, by the lightness of the windows and respective terraces overlooking the valley of Caxias, river Tagus with connection to the sea.
The consequence, as usual in Souto Moura's work, is a piece of art.
Villa with 3 floors, 2 of which are above the entrance floor and a third is semi-buried, taking advantage of the natural slope of the land.
1st floor Four en-suite bedrooms and terrace;
Floor 0 Main entrance, living room, dining room,
kitchen, restroom, garage and terrace;
Floor -1 Living room, guest toilet, utility room in
suite, technical area, storage, laundry and terrace open to the outdoor patio with swimming pool.
Building in pigmented concrete, without glass openings for the street (only small openings, protected or hidden for neighbors) and open spaces with glass and large terraces and patio with swimming pool facing south (valley, river and sea view).
The buildings consist of a structure of slabs and walls in exposed, pigmented reinforced concrete. The external walls are double, the outside in light gray concrete and the inside in brick masonry, finished in plaster and painted.
The window frames will mainly be made of natural anodised aluminum sliding with double glazing, with the entrance door in steel and wooden slats and the garage door in vertical slats.
The transitions from the interior to the terraces are at 0/0 elevation, without any bumps. Inside, some of the walls are in painted concrete and others in hollow brick masonry 30x20x7cm, 30x20x11cm or 30x20x15cm, plastered and painted.
The roof will also be in reinforced concrete, suitably thermally coated.
The exteriors are composed of terraces and garden patios, which, taking advantage of the slope of the land, are connected to the interior.
Floor -1 has a patio where the pool is located, which continues with a covered terrace and an interior room at 0/0 level.
In this way, part of the house serves as a covered outdoor space to support the swimming pool.
These flat exterior spaces do not occupy the entire lot, allowing the slope and natural vegetation of the land to be maintained, not only for technical and constructive reasons, but also for the aesthetic and landscape integration with the vegetation, reducing the relationship with neighboring buildings
