~The Velasco Castle or better known as "The Lezana Tower", is of exceptional importance for the lordship of the villages of the Mena Valley from the middle of the 13th to the 15th century. At that time, a small local nobility was consolidated to which Menese lineages such as the Ortiz, Vivanco, Vallejo, Gil and Angulo belonged. The latter were the ones who built it in the year 1397. ~Due to the constant fights between Muslims and Christians at the time, the construction has an offensive profile.~The Velasco family gained power throughout the territory of northern Burgos and In the 15th century they took ownership of the Tower. ~~Completely renovated in 1850, according to cadastre data, but in the last decade it was renovated again and adapted to current times. ~With a height of almost 20 meters, very thick walls, with regular ashlar stone, masonry and marked on its flanks and in the center of its canvases by cubes and towers that protect it and isolate it from the outside. ~In this area, between the wall and the tower, in recent years a HEATED POOL was built, WITH WAVES for swimming against the current, and with a very special design. ~Access to the patio is through an opening of pointed entrance, located in the south tower of the wall, and with a second access to the east where we find a TXOKO with fireplace and bar, and two distinguished services for men and women. ~~On the ground floor of the tower were the stables and for safety reasons it was not connected to the rest of the floors. Currently it is used as a warehouse, it is where the GEOTHERMAL system, the CENTRALIZED SUCTION system and other machinery are located. It is an open space with many possibilities since it was joined to the rest of the floors of the tower by the ELEVATOR.~~Through an external staircase you access the living floors, which leads to a beautiful terrace that allows you to look out to the wall and the drawbridge, currently fixed but retaining its character, connects the keep with the east tower of the fence. ~~On the first floor we find a large living room with two fireplaces, a gazebo with seats and high ceilings, a separate kitchen, and a guest toilet. ~Despite the defensive construction types of the time, the tower has very good luminosity.~~Going up the stairs we find a mezzanine, with a charming living area and library with views of the living room below, a bedroom with a very special design and a bathroom.~~On the fourth floor you can enjoy a beautiful master suite, with an impressive carved wooden entrance door, two gazebos with stone table and seats, fireplace, Jacuzzi next to the bed, bathroom and dressing room, which is accessed through a staircase since it is in the attic.~This floor also has a laundry room and a second bedroom en suite, this one with a bathroom, fireplace and attic.~~On the top floor the staircase leads in a large living room, and two more bedrooms with their respective bathrooms.~~Finally, crowning the construction, is the ROOF from where you can see with completely clear views, among others, the Magdalena Pass and the Montes de la Peña.~~It is located on a PLOT of almost 25,000 meters of which 18,000 are urban. With a large exterior LAKE, preserved watchtowers at the entrance... In short, a unique space to enjoy nature and HISTORY.~~The CASTLE is declared an asset of cultural interest, and could not be located in a better location area than the Mena Valley, which is characterized by its mountainous landscape, its forests and its rivers, a mycotourism area for the use of mushrooms, and the first municipality in Spain declared by UNESCO as a Star Park – Star Park.~~
