Marie-Claire Sangouard has just celebrated a decade of activity within the Engel & Völkers group. Here on the Côte d’Azur, following inauguration of the agency in Cannes in 2011, three more addresses have opened their doors : Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat in 2012, Saint-Tropez as from 2021, and Nice since the start of 2022.


Heading up a team of 60, the General Manager tells us about plans for development throughout the Côte d’Azur after an 80 % leap in turnover in the current financial year. Dynamism underpinned by demand for second homes, and international buyers accounting for 65 % of the clientele.

It’s now official : Americans are making a big comeback between Nice and Menton, representing for Engel & Völkers 18 % of the buyers, with purchasing power from 1 to 3 million euros. They appreciate authentic old stone, history, “Belle Époque” architecture, views of the sea, proximity to Monaco, and turnkey properties.

Europeans are benefiting from the widespread use of teleworking, taking note of the return of regular flights to major capitals, acclaiming the French style of living, and enjoying congenial village life, particularly in Villefranche, Beaulieu-sur-Mer and Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Cannes is very popular among Scandinavian, German, Belgian,

English and East European clients. As for Saint-Tropez, this typical, festive fishing port appeals to those speaking German. An observation closely linked to the effectiveness of the network, present in 34 countries with 17,000 collaborators. “It directly accounts for 30 % of our turnover. After a first acquisition, clients make known their wishes to build on their assets, before being directed towards promising addresses, of which the Côte d’Azur undeniably forms a part,” explains Marie-Claire Sangouard. “Even more so in these troubled times of stock market volatility and low returns on bank investments.”
