Warhol Unlimited

For the first time in Europe, Andy Warhol’s “Shadows” are being exhibited in their entirety. For the occasion, the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris is staging an exceptional exhibition dedicated to the undisputed king of Pop Art.

Installed in the Dia Art Foundation in New York, the “Shadows” are comprised of an astonishing series of 102 silkscreen paintings in 17 different colours, with a total length of over 130 metres. They recall the capacity of Andy Warhol (1928 - 1987) to overthrow conventions in art, from the initial conception of his works to their staging. When asked if they were art, Warhol replied : “...We played disco music during the opening, I suppose that makes them disco decor”. Alongside this monumental work, several well-known series make up this event. Including the “Electric Chairs” (1964-1971), “Jackies” (1964), “Flowers “(1964-1965) and “Maos” (1972-1973). Broadly acclaimed as much as he was widely criticized, the artist succeeding in producing works which still have that same capacity for challenging the public and this, despite all the media hype about his achievements. The master of the abolition of boundaries, Andy Warhol is here consecrated as the artist of excess, whence the title of the exhibition, “Warhol Unlimited” !
