Galerie Podgorny Robinson, the new name of a cult address
For the past few weeks, trucks have been performing an endless ballet in front of what was, until 2015, the well-known Galerie Guy Pieters in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. Arik Levy, Keith Haring, Marc Quinn, Robert Combas… The tone is set. Since July 12th, the 800 sq. metres of exhibition space offered by this flagship art-gallery just below the Maeght Foundation has welcomed works of museum quality. Alongside these leading lights in the world of contemporary art, emerging or already confirmed artists have also been given a prominent place. Czech artist Georg Jiri Dokoupil, sculptor Nicolas Sanhes, painter Lilian Daddi and the “master of freehand lines”, German artist John Franzen, are just some of the artists whose work is already on display. Significantly enriching the offering of contemporary art on the French Riviera, the Galerie Podgorny intends to stage temporary exhibits during the summer, featuring artists little-known in the region. As clearly demonstrated from the start : the highlight of the inaugural exhibition, a series of works entitled “Witness your World”, proposes a Dante-like glimpse of Social Media Art. Signed by a Belgian trio, the Leroy Brothers, this iconoclastic work is the result of automated algorithms. “Users send photos and messages to our platform, to capture the time we are living in. Our work consists of extracting virtualiity and making it real,” explains one of the three brothers, a former artist in residence at the Villa Arson in Nice and a graduate of the London art school, The Cass. Already exhibited in Shanghai, Paris, Milan and Saint-Petersburg, this avant-garde work gives a foretaste of the goal adopted by Jason Robinson : that of astonishment. It certainly seems that he has chosen the right address for it.
