Founded in 1793 as Germany's first seaside resort, Heiligendamm quickly developed into a fashionable bathing destination. To achieve this, Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II had the so-called "pearl necklace" built, a row of elegant beach villas directly on the promenade.
The lodging house "Villa Greif" is the second of this ensemble. Completed in 1854 according to the design of court architect W. Stern, he created one of the most successful examples of a Neo-Renaissance beach villa.
The renovation followed the principle of remaining as faithful as possible to the historical original - in accordance with conservation area requirements.
The restoration required highly sophisticated custom craftsmanship so that the house presents itself even better to its current residents than it did in 1854. Six unique apartments have found a place here. From each individual unit, you are offered a direct view of the Baltic Sea in a spacious atmosphere.
During the restoration of "Villa Greif," only high-quality materials were used. Ceiling heights of up to 3.50 m create the framework for a representative ambiance. A remote-controlled gas fireplace and bespoke furniture in the walk-in wardrobe of the bedroom are also part of the equipment.
The apartment features a high-quality fitted kitchen, underfloor heating, and wooden mullioned windows with thermal insulation glazing. The current complete furnishing and equipment can be taken over upon request.
The lodging house Villa Greif is listed as a historical monument in the heritage list. At the same time, it is part of the Heiligendamm conservation area. Due to the rarity of its architecture and its preserved original exterior and interior elements, it holds very significant historical value for the architectural history of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
