In Paris's 18th arrondissement, the property market varies noticeably from one area to another. Montmartre, Abbesses and Lamarck-Caulaincourt are home to many older apartments, while Jules-Joffrin has a more varied mix of buildings. On the higher parts of the hill, some apartments also enjoy open views across Paris.
Around Rue Lepic, Avenue Junot and Rue des Abbesses, apartments are mainly found in older buildings dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. On the upper slopes, some higher-floor properties have open views over Paris. The area also includes former artists' studios, sometimes identifiable by their large glass windows, as well as apartments converted beneath the rooftops.
Along Rue Caulaincourt and Rue Lamarck, the streets are lined with many Haussmannian and post-Haussmannian buildings containing spacious family apartments. Some also have balconies overlooking the street or the rooftops of Paris. Around Place Jules-Joffrin, smaller older buildings and brick façades are more common.
Between Abbesses and the top of the hill, the sloping streets are lined with older apartment buildings, townhouses and former artists' studios. Around Place du Tertre and the streets near Sacré-Cœur, buildings are generally lower than in many other parts of Paris. Combined with Montmartre's elevation, this gives some apartments and houses open views across the city.
