S-Class Mercedes Cabriolet

In Frankfurt, the second half of September is dedicated to the world of automobiles. Among the new models, the very elegant convertible version of the S-Class Mercedes.

Four real passenger seats are offered by this generous convertible. 5 metres long, the model inspired by the coupé of the same name comes with an electric hood made of fabric with very effective soundproofing. With a simple push of the button of the beautifully sculptured central console or remote control, it opens or closes with the car already attaining a speed of 60 km/h.

Luxury and comfort are the main assets proposed by this fine German car : seats with leather upholstery, refined wooden inserts… Passengers re-experience driving with their hair in the wind. Thanks to Aircap systems, heated seats and armrests, and Airscarf, a warm and delicate caress for the neck, Mercedes-Benz lines up all the attributes of the convertible without its disadvantages. The “intelligent” air conditioning is self-regulating, responding to data collected by ten sensors. Sight, touch, hearing, all the senses are solicited, even smell, thanks to the scented air freshener. Bodywork in black, blue, dark red or beige, it’s all a matter of taste. Each detail counts, such as the Intelligent LED Light System above the headlights, which can be embellished with 47 Swarovski crystals for an even more striking effect in the dark.

Technique has not been sacrificed in the name of esthetics. Pro-active technology, driver assistance systems and roll-over protection are all on the programme, together with three V8 and V12 engines. The 4.7-litre biturbo, ie. 450 hp beneath the hood, and the 9-speed 9G-Tronic gearbox provide mixed consumption of 8.5 l/100 km. The 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo produces 585 hp, attains a top speed of 250 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Finally, the S65 AMG is fitted with a 6-l V12 engine, giving 630 hp. Proposed from 150,000 to about 270,000 €, the S-Class cabriolet should see the first orders in December for delivery in early spring.
