Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the cult of excellence

The first 4WD SUV from the luxury British manufacturer proves that one can live in tune with one’s time without sacrificing one’s values. Unsurprisingly, prestige remains the key word. Whence its name, borrowed from the largest diamond ever discovered worldwide…

A 6.75-litre twin turbo V12 engine delivering 571 hp and 850 Nm of torque, combined with all wheel drive via 8-speed transmission… While this prestigious all-terrain vehicle leaves the advantage of power to the Bentley Bentayga, it has stolen the limelight from it on other fronts. Boxy design worthy of the English brand, an aggressive stance borrowed from its peers and, something new, a two-stage tailgate. The height of delicacy, the designers have introduced a glass separation between the rear seats and the trunk. Interior details including leather upholstery, silky wool and noble wood, heated armrests, retractable seats at trunk level, and a refrigerated bar for those who prefer it to a third rear seat, remind us more of great limousine classics than SUV norms. A first in a Rolls, the touch screen adds a contemporary feature to the most aristocratic interior in this sector.

Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati have all tried their hands in the genre. Awaited in this category since 2015, Rolls-Royce could not resist either, producing this model 184 cm high, perched on 22-inch wheels. 534 cm long and 216 cm wide, the Cullinan weighs in at 2.66 tons. Equipped with an Off-Road programme, it claims to be “effortless, everywhere”. As for its price, while rumours abound, it has not yet been officially announced, though Rolls-Royce has already presented is configurator on line. Meanwhile, the plant in Goodwood is pulling out all the stops.
